Show me Calculating Final Grades.
Before calculating final grades:
1. Access the Gradebook and click Enter Grades in the main menu to view the Student List.
2. Click Enter Grade at the top of the Final Grades column. Only users with the Instructor or Lecturer role can access this option; users with the Assistant or Grader roles can only view Final Grades.
You can also calculate final grade for individual students by clicking each student's name.
3. Prepare the final grade. This process will differ slightly depending on your settings for Final Grade Release and Grade Calculation (see Grades: Set Up Calculation Method for details). The chart below summarizes the four different possibilities.
To determine whether you have chosen to release the Calculated Final Grade or Adjusted Final Grade, check the column heading "Release Final Adjusted/Calculated Grade" as shown here:
|Choose "Automatically Keep
Final Grades Updated"
Final Grades Updated"
|Calculated Final Grade||If you will be releasing the Calculated Final Grade AND have chosen to automatically keep final grades updated, you do not need to take any additional steps. Your final grades are ready to transfer to the Registrar or release to students as soon as you have entered all grade data.||If you will be releasing the Calculated Final Grade BUT have chosen not to automatically keep the final grades updated:
|Adjusted Final Grade||
If you will be releasing the Adjusted Final Grade AND have chosen to automatically keep final grades updated:
|If you will be releasing the Adjusted Final Grade BUT have chosen not to automatically keep final grades updated:
If you are using the Adjusted Final Grade, you can make adjustments to students' scores. You can make global or individual changes.
To exclude an assignment from all students’ final grade, click Recalculate All, then Final Adjusted Grades, and select only the Items you wish to include. Then click Calculate.
To exclude an assignment from a particular student's final grade, click Recalculate Adjusted Final Grade next to the Adjusted Final Grade for that student. This allows you to recalculate that student's grade by choosing which assignments to include in the calculation.
For example, you can adjust a student's individual total in the first box of their adjusted final grade or alter the 'total out of points' by changing the number in the second box of their adjusted final grade). When you have made all adjustments, click Save at the bottom of the screen.
Be sure you see letter grades acceptable to the Registrar (A through E, S/U) in the Scheme column in either the Final Calculated Grade or Final Adjusted Grades, whichever you have chosen to release. You can have grades in both areas, but Carmen will only release the set you selected:
4. Click Save when done.
After saving, you are ready to release final grades to students -- to do this, click Release All to allow all students to see their final grade. To preview individual students' views of the Gradebook before releasing, see Previewing Grades.
To use Carmen to transfer grades directly to the Faculty Center, see Submitting Final Grades to the Faculty Center.
