The calendar tool in Carmen was significantly changed by the December 2011 update. We are working on a new set Help documents. In the meantime, we are happy to provide some basic information. We deeply regret the inconvenience caused by these problems.
Known Issues
In part because of the new design, some Calendar-related features are not working properly. We are working with the vendor to resolve these issues. The problems and work-arounds are listed here.
Events widget - For users with access to a very large number of courses, the presence of the Events widget on a course home page will prevent the page from loading. In order to reduce the chance of this happening to instructors and students, we have temporarily replaced the Events widget with the Calendar widget.
Schedule checkbox - in Quizzes, Dropbox, Manage Dates, and any other tool where users can set an Availability date and then check a box to "create Schedule event," checking the Schedule box will cause an error and any changes made to the activity will not be saved. Instructors can still set Availability dates and can still add the due dates manually to the calendar. The problem only happens when the Schedule box is checked within each activity.
Calendar Import
The Calendar in Carmen now behaves more like calendars in other applications (like Outlook or Google). One change is that it can now only import calendar-type files. It is no longer possible to import a set of dates via a csv file created in Excel.
If you want to import a set of events/dates for a course, you can do that using an .ical file. However, the process of creating and exporting the file using a tool like Outlook or Google Calendar would be much the same as creating the dates directly in the Carmen calendar.
